Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Getting started with your Sk8-Hi trainers is straightforward.
- Lacing: Unlace the trainers sufficiently to comfortably insert your foot.
- Foot Placement: Slide your foot in, ensuring your heel sits snugly against the back of the shoe.
- Adjust Lacing: Tighten the laces from the bottom up, ensuring even tension across your foot. Adjust to a comfortable snugness, avoiding excessive tightness that could restrict circulation or cause discomfort.
- Knotting: Tie the laces securely, using a double knot if preferred for extra security.
Compatibility
Your Vans Sk8-Hi Suede Trainers are designed for broad compatibility with your wardrobe and lifestyle.
- Apparel: They complement a wide range of casual clothing, including jeans, chinos, shorts, joggers, and various streetwear styles.
- Seasonality: Suitable for cooler to moderate weather. While not insulated, their high-top design offers more coverage than low-cut shoes.
- Activities: Ideal for casual outings, city walking, social events, and light recreational activities. They are not recommended for intense sports requiring specialized footwear.
Care
Proper care is essential to maintain the appearance and longevity of your suede trainers.
- Suede Protection: Before first wear, apply a high-quality suede protector spray. Reapply periodically as directed by the product instructions. This helps repel water and resist stains.
- Cleaning Suede:
- Dry Brush: For light dirt and dust, use a suede brush (or a clean, dry toothbrush) to gently brush the nap in one direction.
- Stain Removal: For stubborn spots, use a suede eraser to gently rub away the mark. For liquid stains, blot immediately with a clean cloth. For dried stains, use a suede cleaner specifically designed for the material, following its instructions carefully.
- Cleaning Waffle Sole: Use a mild soap and water solution with a brush (like an old toothbrush) to scrub the rubber foxing and waffle sole. Wipe clean with a damp cloth.
- Drying: If your trainers get wet, stuff them with newspaper to absorb moisture and help retain their shape. Allow them to air dry at room temperature, away from direct heat or sunlight, which can damage suede.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Consider using shoe trees to help maintain their shape.
