FAQs
Are ASICS Gel-Contend 9 shoes good for walking?
Yes, their excellent cushioning and comfortable fit, provided by AMPLIFOAM+ and GEL™ technology, make them very suitable for walking and daily casual wear.
What is the primary benefit of GEL™ technology in these shoes?
GEL™ technology is strategically placed in the rearfoot to provide enhanced shock absorption during footstrike, leading to a softer and more comfortable landing with each step.
Can I use these shoes for gym workouts or cross-training?
Absolutely. The Gel-Contend 9's cushioning, support, and stable outsole make them a versatile option for gym workouts, including cardio on treadmills or ellipticals, and light strength training.
How often should I clean my Gel-Contend 9 shoes?
It's best to wipe them down after each use, especially if they are dirty. A more thorough cleaning with mild soap and water can be done as needed, typically every few weeks or months depending on usage.
Are these shoes suitable for flat feet?
The ASICS Gel-Contend 9 is designed for neutral runners with normal to high arches. For individuals with flat feet, who often require more stability or arch support, these shoes may not be the most suitable option. It's recommended to consult with a running shoe specialist.
What does AMPLIFOAM+ cushioning provide?
AMPLIFOAM+ is a lightweight and responsive cushioning foam that delivers long-lasting comfort, a soft underfoot feel, and contributes to the overall durability of the midsole.
Troubleshooting
Shoes feel too tight or uncomfortable after a few runs.
Ensure you have the correct size. The engineered mesh upper should provide an adaptive fit, but if discomfort persists, consider checking your lacing technique or consulting a footwear specialist for sizing. Allow a few runs for the shoes to fully break in.
Foot feels sweaty or hot during runs.
While the engineered mesh is breathable, ensure you are wearing appropriate running socks made of moisture-wicking materials (e.g., synthetic blends) rather than cotton. After use, remove the OrthoLite™ sockliner to allow the shoe to air out completely.
Cushioning feels less responsive or worn out.
Running shoes have a finite lifespan. The cushioning can compress over time, reducing its effectiveness. Typically, running shoes should be replaced every 300-500 miles, depending on individual running style, weight, and terrain. Track your mileage and consider replacement.
Slippage or lack of grip on certain surfaces.
While the durable rubber outsole offers good traction on most road surfaces, extremely wet or icy conditions may reduce grip. Ensure the outsole is clean and free of debris. If running in adverse conditions, adjust your stride and expectations accordingly.

Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Using your ASICS Gel-Contend 9 running shoes is as simple as lacing them up and heading out. Ensure a snug, comfortable fit that allows for natural toe splay without excessive tightness. Always tie your laces securely to prevent slippage and promote stability during your run.
Compatibility
These shoes are specifically designed for:
- Pronation Type: Neutral runners and underpronators.
- Arch Type: Individuals with normal to high arches.
They are not recommended for runners who require specific stability features to correct overpronation.
Care Instructions
Proper care extends the lifespan and maintains the performance of your ASICS Gel-Contend 9 shoes:
- Cleaning: After each run, especially if dirty, gently wipe down the upper with a damp cloth. For tougher dirt, use a small amount of mild soap (e.g., dish soap) diluted in water and a soft brush (like an old toothbrush) to scrub gently. Avoid harsh detergents or abrasive cleaners.
- Drying: Always air dry your shoes. Remove the sockliner (if possible) to allow better airflow inside. Place them in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight or artificial heat sources (like radiators or dryers), which can damage materials and adhesives.
- Storage: Store your shoes in a cool, dry place when not in use. Avoid leaving them in direct sunlight or extreme temperatures, which can degrade materials over time.
- Avoid Machine Washing: Do not machine wash or machine dry your running shoes. This can damage the cushioning, adhesives, and structural integrity of the shoe.
