Product Information

Full details

The Aqua One Filter Air 15 is an ideal filtration solution for aquarium hobbyists maintaining smaller environments like breeding tanks, quarantine setups, or shrimp habitats. It delivers efficient mechanical and biological filtration through a reliable air-driven mechanism, making it gentle enough for sensitive inhabitants. While it is excellent for low-flow requirements, it requires an external air pump—which is sold separately—to operate, and it is strictly limited to 15-liter tanks or smaller setups.

FAQs

Does this filter come with an air pump?

No, the Aqua One Filter Air 15 is a passive unit and requires an external air pump and airline tubing purchased separately.

Can I use this in a saltwater tank?

While it is primarily designed for freshwater, it can be used in small saltwater setups provided the materials are kept clean.

How often should I replace the sponge?

The sponge does not need frequent replacement; only replace it if it begins to physically disintegrate or lose its shape.

Is this filter safe for baby fish (fry)?

Yes, the sponge design is specifically chosen because it does not have high-suction intakes that could harm delicate fry.

Can I put this in a tank larger than 15 liters?

We do not recommend it, as the filtration capacity is specifically calibrated for a maximum volume of 15 liters to maintain water quality.

Troubleshooting

No bubbles coming from the uplift pipe

Check that the air pump is plugged in and the airline is not kinked or disconnected.

Filter keeps falling off the glass

Clean the suction cups and the aquarium glass thoroughly to remove biofilm or debris before reattaching.

Water flow is very weak

Check if the foam sponge is clogged with debris and rinse it in aquarium water.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Safe for shrimp and fry due to low-suction filtration
Provides both mechanical and biological filtering capacity
Easy to disassemble and clean
Energy-efficient when paired with a small air pump
Compact footprint saves space in smaller tanks

Cons

Requires a separate air pump and airline tubing
Not suitable for tanks larger than 15 liters
Mechanical filtration capacity is limited compared to power filters
Air pumps can generate audible hum during operation

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Assembly: Attach the sponge to the filter housing and insert the adjustable uplift pipe into the top.
Installation: Wet the suction cups and press them firmly against a clean surface on the inside glass of your tank.
Connection: Connect a standard airline tube from your external air pump to the air inlet nozzle on the filter.
Maintenance: To clean, remove the foam sponge and rinse it gently in a bucket of conditioned water or used aquarium water. Never wash the sponge in tap water, as the chlorine will destroy the beneficial bacteria colony.
Compatibility: This unit is specifically sized for tanks up to 15 liters and requires a standard aquarium air pump to function.
