Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup: Upon arrival, carefully remove the palm from its packaging. If the pot is dry, water thoroughly until water drains from the bottom. Place in its desired location, considering its mature size and sunlight needs (full sun is generally preferred).
Compatibility: The Washingtonia Palm thrives in well-draining soil. It is compatible with most garden settings when provided with adequate space. For potted specimens, ensure the pot has drainage holes.
Care:
- Watering: Water regularly during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering in cooler months. Ensure good drainage to prevent waterlogging.
- Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix for container plants, or amend garden soil with sand or perlite for better drainage.
- Temperature: This palm is semi-hardy down to -5°C (23°F). In colder regions, provide winter protection by wrapping the trunk and fronds, or move potted plants to a sheltered location like a greenhouse or bright indoor space during frost.
- Sunlight: Prefers full sun but can tolerate partial shade.
- Feeding: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer) according to product instructions.
