FAQs

What is the primary use of this PVC flat bar?

It is primarily used as a finishing trim to cover edges, gaps, or joints, providing a neat appearance and protecting surfaces from damage in interior DIY projects.

Can this trim be used outdoors?

While described as suitable for internal & external wall surfaces, its primary design and common application are for interior use. For exterior applications, ensure it is suitable for the specific environmental conditions.

How do I clean the trim?

The trim can be easily cleaned with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid abrasive cleaners.

What adhesive should I use?

A good quality grab adhesive suitable for PVC and the intended surfaces (e.g., plaster, wood, tile) is recommended. Always follow the adhesive manufacturer's instructions.

Can I paint over this trim?

While the trim has a white finish, painting is generally not recommended as it may affect the finish and adhesion. However, specific plastic primers and paints might be suitable if painting is essential; test in an inconspicuous area first.

What other sizes are available?

B&Q offers this PVC flat bar in various widths and lengths. Please check the product range for available options.

Is this trim flexible?

Yes, the PVC material is lightweight and flexible, allowing it to adapt to minor surface irregularities and be cut to shape.

Troubleshooting

Trim not sticking securely

Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust or grease. Use a high-quality grab adhesive suitable for PVC and the substrate, or consider using screws for a more permanent fix.

Trim is difficult to cut cleanly

Use a fine-tooth saw for best results. Ensure the trim is well-supported during cutting to prevent flexing or chipping.

White finish appears dull

Wipe clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive pads which can damage the surface.

Use a fine-tooth saw or utility knife to carefully cut the PVC flat bar to the required length. Always measure twice and cut once.
Clean both the surface to be covered and the back of the PVC trim.
Apply a suitable grab adhesive or appropriate screws to fix the trim in place. For adhesive, ensure good contact and hold in place until set as per adhesive instructions.
