Product Information

Full details

The Specialized Chamonix 3 MIPS Helmet is designed for adult riders seeking a versatile, high-performance helmet for road, gravel, and commuting. Its key benefit is the combination of advanced comfort, exceptional ventilation inspired by S-Works models, and MIPS technology for rotational impact protection, all validated by a 5-Star Virginia Tech® Helmet Rating. A potential caveat is that while it offers premium features, it is positioned as an accessible option, so users seeking the absolute highest-end materials might find other models with more exotic components.

FAQs

What does Mips Essential Core provide?

Mips Essential Core is a safety system that includes a low-friction layer inside the helmet. It is designed to allow a sliding motion of 10 to 15mm in all directions, which can help reduce rotational forces transferred to the brain during angled impacts.

How effective is the ventilation?

The helmet features 4th Dimension Cooling, which creates a gap between the helmet and forehead to draw air into internal channels. This system is designed to provide significant airflow, keeping the rider cool even at lower speeds.

Can I remove the visor?

Yes, the Chamonix 3 MIPS Helmet comes with an easy-to-remove and re-install visor, allowing you to adapt to different weather conditions or riding styles.

What does the 5-Star Virginia Tech® Helmet Rating mean?

This rating signifies that the helmet has achieved the highest level of safety as tested by the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, indicating superior performance in impact protection.

How do I clean the helmet?

Clean the helmet shell and padding with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid harsh chemicals. Removable padding can often be hand-washed and must be completely dry before reinstallation.

Is this helmet suitable for extended rides?

Yes, the combination of the Headset SX fit system for a secure fit and the 4th Dimension Cooling for ventilation makes it well-suited for extended rides, including road, gravel, and commuting.

What types of cycling is this helmet best for?

The Chamonix 3 MIPS is designed as an all-road, everyday helmet. It is suitable for road cycling, gravel riding, and commuting due to its ventilation, comfort, safety features, and removable visor.

Troubleshooting

Helmet feels too loose or wobbly

Adjust the Headset SX fit system dial at the back for a tighter fit. Ensure the Tri-Fix web splitter is positioned correctly below your ears and tighten the chin strap.

Straps are uncomfortable or uneven

Readjust the Tri-Fix web splitter. Ensure the straps are lying flat against your head and forming a 'Y' shape below the ears. Fine-tune strap length for a balanced feel.

Visor does not stay attached

Ensure the visor is fully aligned with the mounting points and has clicked securely into place. Check for any debris obstructing the connection points.

Difficulty achieving a secure fit

Experiment with the rear fit dial and strap adjustments. Ensure your hair is not interfering with the fit system. If persistent, consider consulting a local bike shop for fitting advice.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Excellent ventilation system keeps the rider cool.
High safety rating (5-Star Virginia Tech®) provides confidence.
Comfortable and adjustable fit system.
Versatile design suitable for multiple cycling disciplines.
Integrated MIPS technology for rotational impact protection.

Cons

Visor attachment mechanism could be more robust for some users.
While inspired by S-Works, material choices reflect its accessible price point.
The fit system, while good, might not accommodate all head shapes perfectly.
Strap adjusters require manual tuning for optimal comfort.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

Fit Adjustment: Place the helmet on your head. Use the micro-adjustable dial on the Headset SX fit system at the rear to achieve a snug, secure fit. The helmet should not move excessively when you shake your head.
Strap Adjustment: Adjust the Tri-Fix web splitter and strap length so the straps form a 'Y' shape just below your ears. The chin strap should be snug enough to fit no more than one finger between the strap and your chin.
Visor Attachment: To attach the visor, align it with the designated mounting points on the front of the helmet and press gently until it clicks into place. To remove, carefully pull the visor away from the helmet.

Compatibility:

The Chamonix 3 MIPS Helmet is designed for adult riders and is compatible with most cycling glasses. The fit system and strap configuration are engineered to work seamlessly with standard cycling apparel.

Care:

Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth with mild soap to clean the helmet shell and padding. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents, as they can damage the helmet materials.
Padding: The internal padding can often be removed for hand washing with mild soap and water. Ensure padding is completely dry before reinserting.
Storage: Store the helmet in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Avoid storing it near sharp objects or where it could be crushed.
