The Gardening Naturally Hessian Potato Sacks are designed for gardeners and home cooks seeking a natural, breathable, and sustainable way to store harvested potatoes. Their key benefit is extending potato freshness by preventing sweating and rot through excellent air circulation, offering a cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative to plastic. A potential caveat is the need for a cool, dark storage environment to achieve maximum longevity. These sacks are biodegradable, compostable, washable, and reusable, available in two sizes to accommodate different harvest volumes.

To prevent sprouting, keep the sacks in a cool, dark place with temperatures consistently below 10 degrees Celsius. Regularly inspect the potatoes and remove any that have started to sprout or show signs of rot to protect the rest.
Yes, the breathable nature of the hessian fabric makes these sacks suitable for storing other root vegetables such as onions and carrots, as well as other produce that benefits from air circulation.
Yes, the woven hessian fabric is strong and designed for durability. The sacks can be washed and reused for many seasons for storing produce.
Yes, the natural woven fabric effectively blocks out light, which is essential for preventing potatoes from turning green and developing solanine.
When the sacks are no longer suitable for reuse, they are fully biodegradable and compostable. They can be added to a compost heap where they will break down naturally.
The standard sack measures H:76cm x W:54cm and holds up to 25kg. The large sack measures H:105cm x W:58cm and holds up to 50kg.
Yes, the large hessian sacks are often used for traditional sack races at events like school fairs or family gatherings, offering a fun and reusable option for outdoor games.
Ensure the sacks are stored in a consistently cool (below 10°C) and dark environment. Check potatoes regularly and remove any that show signs of sprouting or damage.
This can occur if stored in damp conditions. Wash the sacks thoroughly and ensure they are completely dry before refilling or storing. Improve ventilation in the storage area.
If the fabric has started to fray significantly after washing, it may be nearing the end of its reusable life. While still usable for storage, consider composting it and replacing with a new sack. Gentle washing can prolong its use.
Setup: No setup is required; simply fill the sacks with clean, dry potatoes. Ensure potatoes are not wet or dirty before storage to prevent premature spoilage.
Compatibility: Suitable for storing potatoes, onions, carrots, and other root vegetables. Also compatible with use for outdoor games like sack races.
Care: These hessian sacks are washable. Hand wash or machine wash on a gentle cycle with mild detergent. Allow the sacks to air dry completely before storing them or reusing them for produce. Avoid using harsh chemicals or bleach. Regular washing will extend their lifespan.
