FAQs

Is this helmet suitable for mountain biking?

While it features 26 vents and is capable for light use, it is designed primarily for road cycling and lacks a visor for trail protection.

How do I know if the MIPS system is working?

MIPS is an internal slip-plane layer designed to move slightly inside the helmet to absorb rotational energy during an impact; it is a passive safety feature that does not require user intervention.

Can I replace the internal padding?

Yes, the Air-FX padding is removable and washable, though you should check with Giro for compatible replacement pads if yours become worn.

Is this helmet ponytail compatible?

Yes, the rear retention system is designed to allow space for a ponytail, ensuring comfort for riders with longer hair.

What is the certification for this helmet?

The Giro Cinder MIPS meets CPSC safety certification standards for cycling helmets.

Troubleshooting

Helmet feels loose even when tightened

Adjust the vertical position of the Roc Loc 5 system at the back of the helmet to better cradle the occipital bone.

Straps are causing skin irritation

Ensure the strap tension is even on both sides and that the chin buckle is not pressing directly against the skin.

Headset movement during rides

Check that the internal padding is correctly seated and that the retention dial is fully engaged in the locked position.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To set up your helmet, loosen the Roc Loc 5 dial and place it level on your head. Tighten the dial until it is snug but comfortable, ensuring the helmet does not shift when you shake your head. Adjust the side straps so the V-junction sits just below your ears. For care, clean the shell using a soft cloth, mild soap, and water. The interior Air-FX padding can be removed and hand-washed with mild detergent and air-dried to maintain hygiene and comfort. Always inspect the EPS liner for cracks after any significant impact and replace the helmet immediately if damage is detected.
