FAQs
What type of runner is the ASICS NovaBlast 5 best suited for?
The NovaBlast 5 is ideal for neutral runners looking for a highly cushioned and responsive shoe for daily training, tempo runs, and longer distances. It's designed to provide an energetic and bouncy ride.
How does the FF BLAST™ MAX foam benefit my run?
FF BLAST™ MAX foam provides exceptional lightweight cushioning that delivers a soft landing while simultaneously offering a high energy return. This helps make your runs feel more comfortable, responsive, and energetic.
Is the NovaBlast 5 suitable for long-distance running?
Yes, its substantial FF BLAST™ MAX cushioning and high energy return make it well-suited for covering longer distances comfortably and efficiently during training runs.
How does the NovaBlast 5 compare to previous NovaBlast models?
The NovaBlast 5 offers even more energy return and a bouncier feel than its predecessors. ASICS has refined the design to provide an enhanced and more 'energised' running experience.
Can I use these shoes for racing?
While primarily positioned as a training shoe, the NovaBlast 5's lightweight design and high responsiveness make it a viable option for some runners to use for faster efforts or races, especially for distances where comfort over sustained efforts is key.
How should I clean my ASICS NovaBlast 5 shoes?
To clean your shoes, gently brush off loose dirt, then use a soft cloth or sponge with mild soap and cold water to wipe the upper and midsole. Avoid machine washing or harsh chemicals, and always air dry them away from direct heat or sunlight.
Troubleshooting
Shoes feel less bouncy or cushioned over time.
Running shoes, especially those with advanced foam technology, have a lifespan. Loss of bounce often indicates the cushioning material is compressed. Consider replacing your shoes after approximately 300-500 miles, depending on your running style and weight.
Foot discomfort or rubbing during runs.
Ensure you have the correct size and width. Experiment with different lacing techniques to relieve pressure points. Also, try different running socks that wick moisture and prevent friction. Break in new shoes gradually with shorter runs.
Unusual wear patterns on the outsole.
Uneven wear can be a sign of your running gait or foot strike. Consult a running specialist or analyze your gait. Rotating shoes can also help distribute wear. Ensure you are using the shoes on appropriate surfaces (e.g., roads, not trails).
Laces frequently come undone.
Ensure you are using a double knot. There are also specific lacing techniques (e.g., surgeon's knot) that can help keep laces secure during runs. Consider replacing old, worn laces.

Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Getting started with your NovaBlast 5 shoes is straightforward:
- Unboxing: Carefully remove the shoes from their packaging.
- Lacing: Ensure laces are threaded evenly through all eyelets. Adjust tension for a snug, comfortable fit across the midfoot without being too tight.
- First Wear: Wear them for a short walk or light jog to allow the shoes to conform to your feet and identify any areas needing lacing adjustment.
Compatibility
- Running Surface: Primarily designed for road running and paved surfaces. The outsole's design is optimized for consistent, hard surfaces.
- Runner Type: Best suited for neutral runners who do not require significant motion control.
- Activity: Ideal for training runs of varying distances, from short daily jogs to longer mileage, and can also be used for faster paced workouts or races.
Care & Maintenance
Proper care extends the life and performance of your running shoes:
- Cleaning:
- Remove loose dirt with a soft brush (e.g., old toothbrush).
- Mix a small amount of mild soap (like dish soap) with cold water.
- Use a cloth or sponge dampened with the soapy water to gently wipe down the upper and midsole.
- For stubborn stains, use a soft brush with the soapy water.
- Rinse with a clean, damp cloth.
- Avoid machine washing or using harsh chemical cleaners, as this can damage materials.
- Drying:
- After cleaning or running in wet conditions, remove insoles and stuff shoes with newspaper or paper towels to absorb moisture and maintain shape.
- Allow shoes to air dry naturally at room temperature. Avoid direct sunlight or heat sources (e.g., radiators, tumble dryers) as this can degrade materials.
- Storage: Store shoes in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Rotation: If you run frequently, consider rotating your NovaBlast 5 with other running shoes. This allows the cushioning to fully decompress and recover between runs, extending their lifespan.
