FAQs

Is the jacket fully waterproof?

The Kirkbost is designed to be waterproof to handle rain, though 'waterproof' can depend on the intensity and duration of the weather exposure.

Can I remove the hood?

Yes, the jacket features an adjustable zip-off hood that can be easily removed when not needed.

How should I wash this jacket?

Machine wash on a cool, gentle cycle with mild detergent. Do not use fabric softener, as it damages the waterproof properties.

Are the pockets waterproof?

The jacket includes zip pockets for secure storage, though for extreme conditions, it is best to keep sensitive electronics in a dry bag inside the pocket.

What is the material made of?

The jacket is constructed from high-quality, durable polyester, chosen for its weather-resistant properties.

Troubleshooting

Water soaking through the outer layer

The DWR coating may have worn off. Wash the jacket to remove dirt and apply a technical fabric re-proofing treatment.

Zip feels stiff or sticks

Check the track for fabric snags or debris. Clean the zipper teeth and apply a small amount of zipper lubricant if necessary.

Loss of warmth

Ensure the hem and cuffs are cinched tightly. If the padding feels matted, shake the garment after washing to redistribute the insulation.

Pros and Cons

Effective dual-protection against cold and rain
Highly adjustable features for a tailored fit
Removable hood offers flexibility

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To ensure your jacket continues to perform, follow these guidelines:

Fitting: Adjust the hem and cuffs before heading out to lock in body heat. Utilize the zip-off hood during clear weather to reduce bulk.
Cleaning: Use a mild detergent and avoid fabric softeners, as they can break down the waterproof coating. Wash on a gentle, cool cycle.
Storage: Hang the jacket in a cool, dry place. Avoid compressing the padding for long periods in a packed bag, as this can reduce the loft and thermal efficiency over time.
Re-proofing: If water stops beading on the surface of the polyester after heavy use, consider applying a garment-appropriate DWR (Durable Water Repellent) spray to restore the outer shell's performance.
