Full details

The adidas Terrex Anylander RAIN.RDY hiking shoes are designed for male adventurers who need reliable, waterproof footwear for day hikes in varying weather conditions. These shoes offer the perfect balance of ankle support, cushioned comfort, and aggressive traction, making them ideal for both rugged trails and damp environments. One caveat is that the mid-cut silhouette and waterproof membrane, while excellent for protection, may feel slightly warmer than lighter trail runners during high-intensity hikes in hot, dry weather.

FAQs

Are these shoes suitable for winter hiking?

Yes, the RAIN.RDY technology and durable construction make them suitable for light snow and cold, wet conditions.

Can I use these for running?

While they are comfortable, they are specifically designed as hiking shoes with ankle support and a rigid sole for technical trails, not for road or high-speed trail running.

How do I ensure the best fit?

We recommend wearing the type of socks you plan to hike in while trying them on. The standard fit should feel snug but not restrictive in the forefoot.

Are the insoles removable?

Yes, the insoles are removable, allowing you to insert your own custom orthotics if required.

How often should I clean the waterproof coating?

Keep the exterior clean from mud and grit. If the water-repellent properties begin to diminish, you can re-apply a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) spray designed for hiking footwear.

What is the weight drop of the shoe?

These shoes feature a 10 mm drop, with a heel height of 27 mm and a forefoot height of 17 mm.

Troubleshooting

Water getting inside the shoe

Ensure the laces are tightened properly and the tongue is centered; check that the waterproof membrane has not been punctured by sharp objects.

Accumulation of dirt in outsole lugs

Use a stiff brush or a stick to clear debris from the Traxion lugs after your hike to maintain maximum traction for the next use.

Shoe feels stiff initially

This is common with new, durable hiking footwear. Wear them on short walks to break in the textile upper and midsole before heading out on long-distance hikes.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Excellent waterproof protection for wet conditions
Reliable traction on diverse terrain via Traxion lugs
Provides essential ankle support due to mid-cut design
Sustainable materials used in construction
Comfortable midsole for long-day wear

Cons

Waterproof membrane may reduce breathability in hot weather
Mid-cut profile might feel restrictive to those used to low-top shoes
Heavier than minimalist trail runners

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To get the most out of your Terrex Anylander shoes, ensure you select the correct size; the regular fit is designed to accommodate standard hiking socks without feeling cramped.

Care Instructions:

Cleaning: After muddy hikes, let the mud dry and brush it off with a soft-bristled brush.
Washing: Use warm water and a mild soap to hand wash. Do not put them in a washing machine as this can compromise the waterproof membrane.
Drying: Air dry naturally away from direct heat sources like radiators, which can warp the rubber and degrade the adhesive materials.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place to prevent moisture buildup inside the shoe when not in use.
