Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup & Initial Wear
- Adjust the Strap: Before first wear, open the buckle and loosen the strap.
- Slide Foot In: Place your foot into the clog, ensuring your heel sits properly in the heel cup and your toes are not touching the front rim.
- Fasten Securely: Fasten the strap so that it is snug but not tight. You should be able to slide a finger under the strap. The clogs should feel secure but allow for natural foot movement.
- Break-in Period: Wear your new clogs for short periods initially (e.g., 30 minutes to an hour) and gradually increase wear time over several days or weeks. This allows the footbed to mold to your unique foot shape and the leather to soften.
Compatibility
The Boston Clogs' classic, earthy tobacco brown color and minimalist design make them highly versatile:
- Casual Attire: Pair them effortlessly with jeans, chinos, shorts, or casual skirts and dresses.
- Loungewear: Ideal for comfortable home wear or relaxed weekend outfits.
- Work/Uniform (where permitted): Their closed-toe design can be suitable for certain work environments that allow comfortable, non-slip footwear.
Care & Maintenance
- Leather Cleaning: For light dirt, wipe the leather upper with a soft, dry cloth. For tougher spots, use a specialized leather cleaner and conditioner, following the product instructions.
- Conditioning: Periodically apply a quality leather conditioner to keep the tobacco brown leather supple, prevent drying, and maintain its rich appearance.
- Protect from Water: Leather is not waterproof. Avoid prolonged exposure to heavy rain or standing water. If they get wet, let them air dry naturally away from direct heat.
- Sole Care: Regularly inspect the rubber outsole for excessive wear. Keep the footbed clean by wiping with a damp cloth; avoid saturating the cork.
- Storage: Store your clogs in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use. Stuffing with tissue paper can help maintain their shape.
- Footbed Maintenance: Birkenstock offers cork sealant. Applying this periodically can protect the cork footbed from drying out and cracking.
