No, you must never machine wash a waxed jacket, as it will destroy the finish and the protective wax barrier.
It is recommended to re-wax your jacket once a year if it is used frequently, or whenever you notice water no longer beads off the surface.
The jacket is highly water-resistant, making it excellent for rain and wind protection, though it is not classified as fully waterproof in extreme, prolonged downpours.
While best for cooler or damp conditions, it is light enough for transitional weather; however, it may feel warm in direct, high-intensity summer heat.
Hang it on a wide, sturdy hanger in a cool, well-ventilated closet to prevent the wax from transferring to other clothing and to help maintain its shape.
The wax coating has likely worn thin; apply a new layer of Barbour wax dressing to restore weather resistance.
Use a cold, damp sponge to gently wipe away debris. Allow the jacket to air dry naturally away from direct heat sources like radiators.
Because this garment uses wax-coated cotton, care is essential for longevity. Do not machine wash or dry clean, as this will strip the protective wax. Instead, spot clean with a damp sponge and cold water when necessary. To maintain its water repellency, the jacket should be professionally re-waxed or treated with approved Barbour wax dressing every one to two years, depending on the frequency of use and exposure to harsh conditions. Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area, ensuring it is not packed tightly against other garments to allow the fabric to breathe.
