Setup, Compatibility & Care
Planting:
Roses can be planted any time of year, as long as the ground is not frozen, waterlogged, or extremely dry. Choose a location that receives full or partial sunlight and is somewhat sheltered.
Soil Requirements:
'Zephirine Drouhin' thrives in deep, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil. Amending your soil with compost before planting is recommended.
Watering:
Water regularly, especially during hot or dry periods, to ensure the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged.
Feeding:
For best results, feed your rose twice a year: once in late March or April as new growth begins, and again in late July to support continued flowering.
Support:
As a climbing variety, ensure you provide a sturdy structure such as a trellis, wall, or strong wires for the rose to grow upon. Train the main stems as they grow.
Pruning:
Prune lightly in late winter or early spring to remove dead or weak wood and to shape the plant. Remove any faded flowers throughout the blooming season to encourage further blooms.
Compatibility:
This rose is compatible with most garden settings and can be planted alongside other perennial shrubs or flowers, provided they do not overly compete for light, water, and nutrients. It is also suitable for large containers.
