FAQs
Are these shoes machine washable?
No, washing leather shoes in a machine will damage the material and affect the integrity of the adhesive. Stick to manual surface cleaning.
Does the 740 series run true to size?
The New Balance 740 generally fits true to standard adult sizing, but leather can stretch slightly over time.
Can I use these for heavy gym workouts?
While they provide great cushioning, these are lifestyle-performance trainers and are best suited for walking and casual activities rather than intense high-impact sports.
What should I do if the leather gets wet?
Wipe off excess water immediately and let the shoes air dry naturally away from direct heat or radiators.
Is the insole removable?
The insoles in most New Balance 740 models are designed to be removable if you need to insert your own custom orthotics.
Troubleshooting
Laces coming undone
Use a double knot or replace with slightly shorter laces if the current ones are too long for your tension preference.
Leather looks dull
Use a leather conditioner to rehydrate the material and restore its natural luster.
Creasing at the toe box
This is natural for leather shoes. Using shoe trees when not in use helps maintain the shape and minimize deep creases.

Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure your New Balance 740 trainers remain in top condition, follow these steps:
- Break-in Period: Wear the shoes for short periods initially to allow the leather to soften and conform to your foot.
- Cleaning: Wipe the leather upper with a soft, dry cloth to remove loose dirt. Use a dedicated leather cleaner for deeper stains.
- Moisture Protection: Apply a leather-safe water repellent spray to protect against potential water damage.
- Storage: Keep in a cool, dry place away from direct heat sources, which can cause the leather to crack or the midsole foam to prematurely age.
