Setup, Compatibility & Care Instructions
Setup
Before you begin, gather all necessary items:
- Read Instructions: Carefully read the entire instruction leaflet included in the product packaging.
- Patch Test: Always perform a skin allergy patch test 48 hours before each application, even if you have colored your hair before, to rule out any allergic reactions.
- Strand Test: As mentioned, a strand test is crucial for determining exact color outcome and timing, particularly on previously colored or very porous hair.
- Protect Your Space: Cover surfaces with old towels or newspapers. Wear old clothing that you don't mind getting stained.
- Protect Yourself: Put on the gloves provided (or use your own protective gloves). Apply a barrier cream (like petroleum jelly) to your hairline, ears, and neck to prevent skin staining.
Compatibility
- Hair Color: This product is specifically designed for use on bleached, blonde, or pre-lightened hair. The paler your base color, the more visible and true-to-tone the pastel blue will be.
- Hair Type: Suitable for most hair types, but results may vary based on hair porosity and previous chemical treatments. Highly porous hair may absorb color more intensely or fade more quickly.
- Not Recommended For: Dark hair without prior lightening, as the pastel shade will not be visible. Also, not for coloring eyelashes or eyebrows.
Care
To prolong the life of your pastel blue color:
- Use Color-Safe Products: Opt for shampoos and conditioners specifically formulated for colored hair. These are typically sulfate-free and designed to preserve color.
- Wash Less Frequently: The more you wash your hair, the faster the semi-permanent color will fade. Try to extend the time between washes.
- Cool Water Rinses: Always rinse your hair with cool or lukewarm water. Hot water opens the hair cuticle, allowing color molecules to escape.
- Limit Heat Styling: Excessive use of heat styling tools (flat irons, curling irons, blow dryers) can cause color to fade prematurely. Use a heat protectant spray when styling.
- Protect from Sun: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can also cause fading. Consider wearing a hat or using UV protectant sprays when outdoors.
- Avoid Chlorine/Salt Water: Swimming in chlorinated pools or salt water can strip hair color. If you must swim, wet your hair with clean water and apply a leave-in conditioner beforehand.
