The Unifix Grade 12.9 Socket Head Cap Screws are designed for mechanical engineers, construction professionals, and DIY hobbyists who require high-tensile strength fasteners for heavy-duty assembly. Featuring a robust grade 12.9 steel construction with a bright zinc-plated finish, these screws provide exceptional load-bearing capabilities and improved corrosion resistance, though they are specialized for high-torque applications and may be overkill for light-duty wood fastening.

Grade 12.9 refers to the mechanical properties of the steel, indicating a high-tensile strength of 1200 MPa and a yield strength of 1080 MPa, making it suitable for heavy-duty use.
While technically possible, these are designed for metal-to-metal applications. Using them in wood may require a washer to prevent the head from sinking into the material.
Yes, you require an Allen key or hex bit of the corresponding metric size to correctly seat and tighten the socket head.
No, they are made from high-strength alloy steel with a bright zinc plating for corrosion resistance, which is different from solid stainless steel.
Yes, provided the threads are not deformed and the socket head remains in good condition, they can be reused in non-critical applications.
The socket has likely become stripped due to excessive force or a worn tool. Try using a slightly larger metric hex key or an extraction tool if the bolt is already seated.
Check for debris or paint inside the threaded hole. Clean the hole with a tap or wire brush and ensure the screw is perfectly perpendicular to the surface before driving.
Zinc plating is a protective coating, not a permanent shield. Clean the surface with a rust inhibitor and consider a secondary clear coat for long-term protection.
To ensure maximum effectiveness, always match the bolt diameter and pitch to the pre-tapped hole. Use a hardened steel hex key to prevent rounding the internal socket. While the zinc plating offers good corrosion resistance, it is recommended to apply a light coating of machine oil if the fasteners are used in high-humidity areas. Avoid using these screws in high-heat applications without consulting engineering specifications, as extreme temperatures can impact the structural integrity of the high-tensile steel.
