Setup, Compatibility & Care Instructions
Choosing Your Size (Compatibility)
The Slazenger Ikon Hockey Stick is available in sizes 28, 30, 32, 34, and 36 inches. Selecting the correct stick length is crucial for comfort, control, and effective play. An improperly sized stick can hinder skill development and performance.
A general guideline for choosing a stick size is:
- Stand upright, wearing your playing shoes.
- Hold the stick next to your leg, with the head of the stick resting on the ground.
- The top of the stick should reach roughly your hip bone or just below your naval.
For children, a stick that reaches between the belly button and hip is usually appropriate. A slightly shorter stick often offers more control for beginners, aiding in fundamental skill acquisition, while a slightly longer stick can provide more reach and potential power for more experienced players. If in doubt, consult a coach or field hockey specialist for personalized advice.
Initial Setup
Your Slazenger Ikon Hockey Stick comes ready for play. The cushioned taped grip is pre-applied from the factory, meaning no immediate assembly or preparation is required before its first use.
Care & Maintenance
To ensure the longevity, performance, and safety of your stick, follow these simple care instructions:
- Clean After Use: After each use, wipe down the stick with a damp cloth to remove dirt, grass, and moisture. This prevents accumulation of grime and protects the wooden surface.
- Inspect Regularly: Periodically check the stick for any signs of splintering, cracks, or damage, especially on the head (hook) and shaft. Also, inspect the grip tape for wear, tears, or slippage.
- Grip Maintenance: If the cushioned taped grip becomes worn, slippery, or damaged, it can be easily replaced with new hockey stick grip tape. This will restore optimal comfort and control.
- Storage: Store the stick in a dry, cool place, away from extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, or excessive humidity. Avoid leaving it exposed to the elements (rain, snow) as this can cause warping or material degradation of the wood.
- Avoid Excessive Impact: While durable, wooden sticks can be damaged by repeated forceful impacts on hard, non-playing surfaces (e.g., hitting goalposts, concrete, or asphalt repeatedly). Use the stick only on appropriate playing surfaces.
Following these simple care instructions will help keep your Slazenger Ikon Hockey Stick in excellent condition, ensuring many seasons of enjoyable and effective play.
