Full details
The Regatta Karabiner Handle Mug is an essential piece of equipment for hikers, campers, and outdoor enthusiasts who prioritize space-saving gear without sacrificing durability. Its primary benefit is the integrated karabiner handle, which allows you to attach the mug directly to the outside of your backpack, keeping your internal bag space free for other supplies. While its 0.3-litre steel construction makes it exceptionally sturdy, it lacks vacuum insulation, meaning hot beverages will lose temperature faster than in a thermal flask.

FAQs
Is this mug dishwasher safe?
It is recommended to hand wash the mug to keep the karabiner spring mechanism functioning smoothly.
Can I use this mug over a direct flame?
The steel construction is heat-resistant, but be cautious as the handle and body will become very hot quickly, and the karabiner spring may weaken with repeated extreme heat exposure.
Is the mug vacuum insulated?
No, this is a single-wall steel mug, so it does not offer long-term thermal retention.
What is the weight of the mug?
The mug is designed to be lightweight, making it suitable for ultralight trekking where every gram counts.
Can the karabiner be removed?
The karabiner is integrated into the handle design for security and is not intended to be removed.
Does it have a lid?
No, this model is an open-top mug design.
Troubleshooting
Karabiner gate feels stiff or sticky
Rinse the hinge mechanism with clean water to remove dirt or sand, then cycle the gate several times to loosen it.
Surface stains from tea or coffee
Use a mixture of baking soda and water to gently scrub the interior, then rinse thoroughly.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Secure external attachment prevents internal bag clutter
- Highly durable steel body resists denting and breaking
- Compact and lightweight for long-distance hiking
- Ideal for clipping to belt loops or climbing harnesses
Cons
- Single-wall steel construction does not keep drinks hot for long periods
- Handle can become hot to the touch if the mug contains boiling liquid
- Not suitable for microwave use
- Capacity may be too small for heavy-duty cooking needs
Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure the longevity of your mug, wash it thoroughly with warm, soapy water before its first use. While the steel is robust, avoid using harsh steel wool or abrasive scrubbing pads, which can scratch the finish over time.
Compatibility:
- The karabiner is sized to fit most standard 25mm to 30mm backpack webbing and loops.
- Compatible with most cold-water stream filters for field cleaning.
Care Instructions:
- Hand wash only to preserve the structural integrity of the spring-loaded karabiner.
- Ensure the mug is completely dry before storing it inside your pack to prevent any lingering moisture-related smells.
- Inspect the karabiner hinge occasionally to ensure there is no grit or debris clogging the spring mechanism.
