Product Information

Full details

The Celotex XR4000 is a versatile, high-performance polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation board ideal for builders, architects, and DIY renovators seeking to improve energy efficiency in roofs, floors, and walls. Its primary benefit is a high thermal conductivity of 0.022 W/mK, allowing for superior insulation with thinner profiles, though users must note that precise cutting and fitting are required to prevent thermal bridging.

FAQs

Can the XR4000 be used in flat roofs?

Yes, it is designed for use in both pitched and flat roof systems.

What is the thermal conductivity of this board?

The Celotex XR4000 has a thermal conductivity of 0.022 W/mK.

Does this insulation require a separate vapor barrier?

The foil facing acts as a vapor control layer, but always ensure all joints are taped to create a continuous barrier.

Can I use this board for external wall insulation?

The XR4000 is primarily intended for use within the structure (internal or between-studs). Consult local building codes for external application suitability.

How should I store these boards on-site?

Store them inside or under a cover, kept off the ground on pallets, and protected from inclement weather.

Is the XR4000 compatible with steel-framed systems?

Yes, it is specifically designed for use in both timber and steel-framed construction.

Troubleshooting

Difficulty achieving a tight fit between studs

Use a straight edge and a sharp utility knife to scribe the board accurately before cutting.

Board surface damaged during installation

Minor surface tears in the foil can be repaired using high-quality aluminum foil tape to maintain the vapor barrier.

Visible gaps between adjacent boards

Fill any small gaps with expanding polyurethane foam insulation to prevent cold bridging.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Excellent thermal performance in thin profiles
Lightweight and easy to transport or handle on-site
Versatile use across multiple building elements
BBA certified for reliability
High environmental rating

Cons

Requires precise cutting to ensure airtight seals
Not intended for load-bearing structural support
Requires proper protection from moisture during storage
Can be prone to damage if handled roughly during installation

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To install the XR4000, ensure the substrate is dry, clean, and level. The boards can be cut easily using a fine-toothed saw or a sharp insulation knife. When fitting into cavities, ensure tight joints to avoid thermal bridging, which can occur if gaps are left between boards. For fixing, use appropriate mechanical fasteners or adhesives recommended for PIR materials. Keep the boards covered and off the ground during site storage to prevent moisture saturation or physical damage. Always refer to local building regulations regarding fire safety and ventilation when installing the boards in roof or wall voids.
