FAQs
Is this pipe suitable for high-pressure water mains?
No, this is a micro-irrigation pipe intended for use with low-pressure systems only.
Can I bury this pipe under soil or mulch?
Yes, it is durable enough to be covered by mulch or light soil layers for a cleaner garden appearance.
Does the black color help with performance?
Yes, the black pigmentation is a key component in the UV-resistance, helping block harmful rays that degrade plastic polymers.
What is the best way to cut the pipe?
Use a sharp pair of pruning shears or a clean utility knife to get a straight cut, which helps prevent leaks at connection points.
Will this pipe crack in freezing temperatures?
While resistant to UV, it is recommended to drain your irrigation system during winter to prevent expansion damage from frozen water trapped inside.
Troubleshooting
Water leaking at the connection point
Ensure the pipe is pushed fully over the barb of the connector and that no debris is trapped inside the seal.
Pipe is too rigid to attach to fittings
Dip the end of the pipe into warm water for 15-30 seconds to soften the material, making it easier to push onto the barbed fitting.
Kinking during installation
Unroll the pipe completely and allow it to lay flat in the sun for an hour to regain its flexibility before threading it through garden beds.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Resistant to UV damage for extended outdoor life
- High flexibility for easy installation in complex layouts
- Robust construction prevents common leaks and splits
- Standardized black finish blends discreetly into mulch and soil
Cons
- Requires compatible micro-irrigation fittings for a secure seal
- Best suited for low-pressure systems only
- Not intended for high-pressure main line plumbing
Setup, Compatibility & Care
To install the HydroSure Micro Pipe, simply cut the desired length using a sharp utility blade, ensuring a clean, square edge. Connect the pipe to your system using standard micro-irrigation barbed connectors; if the pipe feels stiff in cold temperatures, briefly soak the end in warm water to make it more pliable for insertion.
Compatibility is key, so always verify that your fittings are rated for the same external diameter as this micro pipe. Maintenance is minimal: periodically check the line for any blockages caused by mineral buildup or debris and ensure that all joints remain tightly connected after the winter season.
