Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Using your Hunter Original Chelsea Boots is straightforward:
- Sizing: Ensure you have selected the correct size. Chelsea boots typically offer a snug fit around the ankle. If you plan to wear thick socks, consider sizing up.
- Donning: Hold the nylon pull tab at the back of the boot. Use the elasticated side gores to expand the opening as you slip your foot in. Guide your foot firmly into place.
- Removing: Pull the boot off by holding the top rim and easing your foot out. Avoid using your other foot to push off the heel, as this can damage the boot.
Compatibility
These boots are highly versatile:
- Attire: Ideal for casual wear, pairing well with jeans, chinos, leggings, and even certain skirts or dresses for a chic, functional look.
- Weather: Designed specifically for rain and wet conditions. Not recommended as primary cold-weather boots due to lack of insulation.
- Terrain: Best suited for urban environments, parks, light trails, and garden use where waterproof footwear is beneficial.
Care
Proper care will prolong the life and appearance of your natural rubber boots:
- Cleaning: Wipe down the boots with cold, soapy water and a clean cloth after each use, especially if they are muddy. Allow them to air dry naturally, away from direct sunlight or artificial heat sources.
- "Blooming": A white powdery film (known as 'blooming') may appear on the rubber. This is a natural process for high-quality natural rubber and is not a defect. It can be easily wiped clean with a damp cloth or, for a more thorough restoration, use a silicone-based Hunter Boot Buffer or Boot Shine product.
- Storage: Store boots upright in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Avoid folding or creasing the rubber, as this can lead to permanent marks or damage. Placing newspaper inside can help absorb moisture and maintain shape.
- Avoid Solvents: Do not use chemical solvents, polishes, or waxes, as these can damage the natural rubber finish.
