Product Information
Full details
The Rab Firewall Light Hooded Hiking Jacket is designed for adult hikers and mountaineers who need a reliable, compressible waterproof layer for unpredictable mid-season weather. Its core benefit is the 3-layer Pertex Shield fabric, which balances robust abrasion resistance with a lightweight, flexible design suitable for all-day comfort. While it offers excellent versatility for various conditions, users should note that as a lightweight specialist jacket, it prioritizes packability and mobility over heavy-duty extreme winter insulation.

FAQs
Is this jacket windproof?
Yes, the 3-layer Pertex Shield construction is both waterproof and windproof, protecting you from gusts in exposed mountain areas.
Can I wear this jacket while wearing a heavy pack?
Absolutely. The fabric is specifically designed to resist abrasion from backpack straps, and the pockets are positioned to be accessible while the hip belt is fastened.
Does the hood fit over a climbing helmet?
The hood is designed with multiple adjustment points for a snug fit on the head; it may be tight over large helmets and is primarily optimized for head-only use.
How should I wash the jacket?
Use a specialized technical cleaner. Follow the care label instructions, typically involving a gentle cycle and low-temperature tumble drying.
Is this suitable for winter climbing?
While it is a robust shell, it is classified as 'Light.' It is best suited for 3-season or mild winter conditions. For extreme alpine environments, a heavier-weight technical shell may be preferred.
Troubleshooting
Water stops beading off the surface
The DWR finish has likely worn off. Wash the jacket and re-apply a DWR treatment spray, then reactivate with low heat.
Feeling damp inside the jacket
Ensure you are not overdressing, as moisture build-up is often condensation from sweat rather than rain penetration. Open the jacket slightly to allow for venting.

Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure the longevity of the 3-layer Pertex Shield, keep the garment clean from salt and dirt, which can degrade the waterproof membrane. When washing, use a technical detergent specifically formulated for waterproof breathable gear. Avoid using fabric softeners or heavy detergents that can clog the pores of the fabric. To restore the water-beading performance, tumble dry on a low setting or follow the garment's specific DWR (Durable Water Repellent) reactivation instructions. The jacket is designed to be worn over standard hiking layers; ensure your mid-layer is not excessively bulky to maintain the jacket's intended range of motion.
