Full details
Unwins Courgette Black Forest F1 Seeds produce an unusual climbing variety of courgettes. With an abundance of dark green fruits, this climbing courgette is a great way to try something different in your garden or allotment. Suitable for container growing, you can support your Unwins Courgette Black Forest F1 with trellis or netting. An F1 hybrid variety, this plant is loved by pollinators and you will love the delicious fruit produced! Good source of vitamin C and antioxidants. Space saving plant. Sow: Apr to Jun Harvest: Jun to Oct. Sowing Indoors Sow seeds individually on edge in small pots of firm, moist seed compost, 2 cm deep. Place in warmth (15–18 °C) and keep moist. As seedlings develop, grow on under cool, bright conditions, avoiding direct sunlight. Planting Out Gradually acclimatize young plants to outdoor conditions over 2–3 weeks before planting in their cropping positions, after risk of frost has passed. Water generously and feed regularly with a tomato fertiliser once fruits begin to swell. Sowing Outdoors Water sowing positions, then sow 2–3 seeds close together in a group 2 cm deep, 90 cm apart. After germination, thin to leave only the strongest seedling per group. Water generously and apply tomato feed regularly. Caution Extremely rarely, courgettes may produce very bitter fruit that can cause stomach upset. Test by tasting the cut surface of one fruit per plant; do not eat bitter fruits. Advice Courgette flowers are edible, either cooked or raw in salads. Regular harvesting encourages continued production of fruits.
