This guide is for owners of medium-sized puppies and gestating/lactating female dogs of medium breeds. The key benefit is supporting your puppy's crucial first year of development with targeted nutrition and immune support. A potential caveat is that it's specifically formulated for puppies, so adult dogs require a different diet. Pro Plan Puppy Medium Chicken & Rice is a complete dry pet food designed to provide optimal nutrition for medium breed puppies, featuring high-quality chicken pieces. It includes OPTISTART, a blend of nutrients to help support puppies' natural defenses, promote long-term health, and aid joint development for an active lifestyle.

This food is suitable from weaning up to 12 months for medium breed puppies. For gestating or lactating bitches, it can be fed throughout pregnancy and nursing.
Feeding guidelines are provided on the product packaging. These are a starting point; you should adjust the amount based on your puppy's age, activity level, and body condition to maintain an ideal weight.
While this is a complete dry food, you can mix it with a compatible wet food to increase palatability, but ensure you adjust the total daily intake to avoid overfeeding. It's best to transition to any new food type gradually.
OPTISTART is a special blend of nutrients, including colostrum, developed by Purina vets and nutritionists. It helps support a puppy's natural defenses and long-term health, enabling their developing immune system to react efficiently to daily challenges.
No, this formula is specifically designed for medium breed puppies (expected adult weight 11-25kg). Large breed puppies have different nutritional requirements, particularly regarding bone and joint development, and require a specific large breed puppy formula.
To maintain optimal freshness and nutritional value, it's recommended to consume the food within 4-6 weeks of opening. Ensure the bag is sealed tightly and stored in a cool, dry place.
The food contains a combination of key nutrients, such as glucosamine and omega-3 fatty acids (though not explicitly listed in specs, standard for joint support formulas), that work together to support healthy joint development and maintain your puppy's active lifestyle.
Ensure you are transitioning the food gradually over 7-10 days. If symptoms persist, consult your veterinarian.
Ensure the food is stored correctly to maintain freshness. Try warming the food slightly with a little water. If the lack of appetite continues for more than 24 hours, consult your veterinarian.
While designed for medium breeds, kibble size can vary in perception. If the puppy struggles excessively, ensure they have adequate water. For extreme cases, consult your veterinarian or a pet nutritionist.

Compatibility: This food is specifically formulated for medium breed puppies (11-25kg adult weight) and gestating/lactating bitches. It is not suitable for adult dogs or puppies of other breed sizes. Always ensure fresh, clean water is available for your puppy.
Transitioning Food: If switching to Pro Plan Puppy Medium Chicken & Rice from another food, it is recommended to do so gradually over 7-10 days. Mix increasing amounts of the new food with decreasing amounts of the old food to help avoid digestive upset.
Storage: Store the food in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Ensure the bag is properly sealed after each use to maintain freshness and prevent moisture or pest contamination. Do not store food for extended periods once opened.
