Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Always consult your vehicle's owner's manual or service guide for specific instructions and recommendations before performing any brake fluid maintenance. Brake fluid replacement typically involves:
- Preparation: Ensure the vehicle is safely lifted or on a level surface. Gather necessary tools, including a brake fluid bleeder kit, wrench, and appropriate safety gear (gloves, eye protection).
- Fluid Removal: Siphon old fluid from the master cylinder reservoir. Clean the reservoir thoroughly.
- Refilling: Fill the master cylinder reservoir with new MOTUL Brake Fluid 9040/2.
- Bleeding: Starting with the wheel furthest from the master cylinder, open the bleeder valve, and have an assistant depress the brake pedal. Close the valve before the pedal is released. Repeat until clean, bubble-free fluid emerges. Continue this process for all wheels, ensuring the master cylinder never runs dry.
- Final Check: Check the brake fluid level, secure the reservoir cap, and test the brake pedal for firmness before driving.
Compatibility
MOTUL Brake Fluid 9040/2 is compatible with braking systems designed for DOT 4 fluids. It is specifically recommended for a wide range of vehicles, including:
- VW: Golf, Polo, Passat, Tiguan, Touareg
- Audi: A3, A4, A5, A6, Q5, Q7
- BMW: 3 Series, 5 Series, X3, X5
Always cross-reference with your vehicle's specific requirements to ensure correct fluid type.
Care
- Storage: Store unopened bottles in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Once opened, brake fluid rapidly absorbs moisture from the air, so seal tightly and use promptly. Do not store opened bottles for extended periods.
- Disposal: Used brake fluid is hazardous waste. Dispose of it responsibly at an approved recycling center or automotive waste facility.
- Maintenance Schedule: Follow your vehicle manufacturer's recommendations for brake fluid replacement, typically every 1-2 years, regardless of mileage, due to its hygroscopic nature.
