Product Information

Full details

The Petzl IKO Core is designed for outdoor enthusiasts, runners, and hikers who prioritize weight, balance, and comfort during dynamic activities. Its standout feature is the innovative AIRFIT headband, which provides a stable, unobtrusive fit by shifting the weight to the rear of the head. While it is incredibly versatile and powerful, users should note that its specialized semi-rigid headband design may not accommodate bulky hats or thick helmets as easily as traditional strap-based models.

FAQs

Can I use the IKO Core with a helmet?

Yes, it is compatible with all Petzl helmets.

How do I turn on the lock function?

The lamp features two LOCK functions to prevent accidental switching; refer to the user manual for the specific button-press sequence.

Does it come with a rechargeable battery?

Yes, the IKO Core includes a rechargeable CORE battery.

What happens if I use AAA batteries?

The lamp will function, but the maximum light output is reduced to 350 lumens due to the different power delivery.

Is the headband washable?

The headband is water-repellent; it can be cleaned by wiping with a damp cloth and allowing it to air dry.

How many brightness levels are there?

The lamp features three distinct brightness levels accessible via the primary button.

Troubleshooting

The lamp is dimmer than expected.

Check if you are using AAA batteries instead of the CORE rechargeable pack, as the latter supports higher output (500 lumens vs 350 lumens).

Lamp won't turn on.

Ensure the LOCK function is deactivated by pressing the button appropriately, or check that batteries are seated correctly with the correct polarity.

Light keeps turning off during use.

Confirm that the battery charge level is sufficient by checking the battery charge indicator when the unit is powered on.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Extremely lightweight at only 90g
Balanced weight distribution reduces head fatigue
Water-repellent headband resists sweat and rain
Highly packable for easy transport
Reflective rear components increase nighttime visibility

Cons

Semi-rigid headband is less adjustable than elastic straps
Lower lumen output when using standard AAA batteries
Not compatible with all non-Petzl headgear

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setting up the IKO Core is straightforward. To adjust the fit, use the quick-adjust tab on the rear battery housing. The HYBRID CONCEPT allows for seamless switching between the CORE rechargeable battery and standard AAA batteries; the lamp software automatically recalibrates to maximize the output of whichever source is detected.

Care instructions include wiping the lamp with a damp cloth after exposure to salt or dirt. While the unit is IPX4 water-resistant, it should not be submerged in water. For long-term storage, remove standard batteries if you intend to leave the unit unused for extended periods to prevent leakage. The headband is made of water-repellent material, so simply air-dry it after heavy sweating or rain exposure.
