These Garden Gear Rust Effect Trough Planters are for garden enthusiasts seeking a stylish and durable outdoor planter solution. Their key benefit is the unique, naturally developed rust patina that adds significant visual appeal and character. A potential caveat is that the rust effect, while intentional and protective, may transfer slightly upon initial contact.

Yes, the Corten steel is safe for growing edible plants. The rust layer is stable and does not leach harmful substances into the soil.
Yes, the rust color will deepen and evolve as the Corten steel continues to oxidize, creating a richer, more dynamic patina over the years.
No, the rust effect is a natural process and a protective layer. No additional treatment is required to maintain it.
A good quality, well-draining potting mix is recommended. You can amend it with compost or specific nutrients depending on the plants you intend to grow.
While they can be used indoors, be aware that the rust may transfer onto surfaces. It is recommended to use them in an outdoor setting or place a protective tray underneath if using indoors.
The set includes one medium planter (54 x 26 x 20cm) and one large planter (76 x 36 x 28cm).
The large planter weighs approximately 2.0 kg when empty. The weight will increase significantly when filled with soil and plants.
While the rust forms a stable layer, initial runoff can occur. Place planters on patios or gravel areas where staining is less of a concern, or use a protective barrier like thick outdoor mats underneath during the initial weathering period.
Ensure the drainage hole at the bottom is not obstructed. If it becomes clogged with soil or debris, gently clear it with a thin stick or wire. Use a well-draining soil mix suitable for your chosen plants.
Setup:
These planters come fully assembled, meaning setup involves simply placing them in your desired location and filling them with appropriate soil and plants.
Compatibility:
Suitable for all types of outdoor environments. The Corten steel is designed to weather gracefully. Ensure the chosen location can support the weight of the planters when filled with soil and plants.
Care:
Minimal care is required. The protective rust layer means no painting or sealing is necessary. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could scratch the surface. Periodically clean the exterior with a damp cloth if dust or debris accumulates. Ensure the drainage hole remains clear to prevent water buildup.
