Setup, Compatibility & Care Instructions
Preparation
- Clean Surface: Ensure the wooden surface is clean, dry, and completely free from any existing varnish or finishes. If the wood is dirty or has surface mould, use Liberon Garden Furniture Cleaner to remove grime. This step is crucial, as residual dirt or mould can cause the wood to blacken when oiled.
Application
- Shake Well: Always shake the can thoroughly before use.
- Apply Oil: Apply the oil generously using a clean, lint-free cotton cloth or a brush.
- Penetration: Allow the oil to penetrate the wood for up to 20 minutes. This allows the oil to soak into the wood fibers.
- Wipe Dry: After the penetration period, wipe off any excess oil from the surface with a clean, lint-free cloth. This prevents a sticky finish.
- Drying: Allow each coat to dry completely for a minimum of 24 hours before applying subsequent coats. Liberon recommends a minimum of 3 coats, with more coats needed for areas that are particularly exposed to the weather.
- Final Drying: Ensure the furniture is fully dry (at least 24 hours after the final coat) before putting it back into use.
Compatibility
This product is suitable for all exterior wood types. It is not recommended for use over existing varnish or sealants without proper removal and preparation.
Care
Regular cleaning with a damp cloth is sufficient. For deeper cleaning, use a mild detergent. Reapplication of the oil as needed, typically annually or when the wood appears dry, will maintain protection.
