Setup, Compatibility & Care
Sowing Indoors (Recommended):
- Sow seeds indoors or under glass from January to March.
- Use a good quality seed compost and sow seeds on the surface, gently firming them down.
- Place the seed tray in a propagator at 20-25°C (68-77°F) or seal in a polythene bag until germination.
- Germination typically takes 10-21 days. Keep compost moist but not wet, and do not exclude light.
- Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into 7.5cm (3") pots.
- Grow seedlings on in cooler conditions.
Transplanting Outdoors:
- After all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatize the young plants to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days.
- Plant outdoors in full sun, spacing them about 30cm (12") apart.
Soil & Position:
- Position: Full sun.
- Soil: Any light, well-drained soil.
Care:
- Watering: Keep soil consistently moist, especially during dry periods, but avoid waterlogging.
- Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flowers to encourage more blooms and prolong the flowering season.
- Feeding: A balanced liquid fertilizer can be applied during the growing season if desired, but is often not necessary in good soil.
Compatibility:
- These snapdragons are compatible with most common garden plants and are well-suited for mixed borders, rock gardens, and container arrangements.
