This Chimney Sheep is designed for rectangular flues that measure approximately 9 inches by 16 inches. Measure your flue opening to confirm it matches these dimensions.
No, you must always remove the Chimney Sheep draught excluder *before* lighting any fire in the fireplace. Leaving it in place can cause smoke and toxic gases to build up in your home.
It is designed for easy installation and removal. You simply push it into place, and it expands to fit. Removal is a matter of pulling it out.
The product is made from a durable, insulating material designed to effectively block air. Specific material details can be found on the product packaging.
It significantly reduces draughts, which can carry smells. However, if the primary issue is persistent strong odors, a professional chimney inspection and cleaning might be necessary.
Remove the excluder from the flue and clean it with a damp cloth. Ensure it is completely dry before re-inserting it.
This product is primarily designed for traditional wood-burning fireplaces with solid fuel. Compatibility with gas fireplaces can vary; consult your fireplace manufacturer's guidelines.
Verify your flue dimensions. If the flue is slightly larger than 9 x 16 inches, you may need to gently adjust the excluder or consider a larger size if available. If the flue is smaller, it might be too tight and difficult to remove.
Ensure you are gripping the handle or designated part of the excluder firmly. If it's very tight, you may need to gently wiggle it. Make sure no debris has become lodged around it.
Ensure the flue was clean before installation and that no residual soot or debris has been disturbed. If the smell persists or is unusual, the flue may require professional cleaning.
