FAQs

What type of line is recommended for this reel?

Braided line is recommended for its strength and low stretch, but monofilament can also be used.

How do I adjust the drag?

Use the star drag located on the side of the reel. Turning it increases or decreases the drag pressure.

How do I clean the reel?

Rinse the reel with fresh water after each use and wipe it down with a clean cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals.

What is the purpose of the level wind?

The level wind ensures the line is evenly distributed on the spool, preventing tangles and improving casting performance.

How do I adjust the centrifugal brakes?

Open the side plate and adjust the number of brake weights that are engaged, usually by sliding them into place.

What should I do if the reel gets saltwater on it?

Rinse it thoroughly with fresh water as soon as possible, and then dry it.

What is the warranty on the Abu Garcia Seven reel?

Warranty information is dependent on the retailer but Abu Garcia provides warranty information on their products.

Troubleshooting

Line is not laying evenly on the spool.

Check and clean the level wind mechanism. Ensure the line is spooled correctly.

The reel is difficult to cast and frequently backlashes.

Adjust the centrifugal brake system to match your lure's weight and casting style. Reduce the force of your cast.

Drag is not smooth.

Clean and lubricate the drag system. Check for any damage to the drag washers.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Line Capacity: Ensure you spool the reel with the appropriate line type (braid is recommended) and capacity (270m/0.45mm). Properly filling the spool is vital to avoid issues during casting and retrieving.
Casting Brake: Adjust the centrifugal braking system based on the weight of your lure and the fishing conditions. This helps to prevent backlashes.
Drag Setting: Set the drag before starting your fishing session, and adjust as needed when fighting a fish.
Care: After each use, rinse the reel with fresh water to remove salt and debris. Periodically lubricate the reel's moving parts with reel oil to maintain its performance and longevity. Store the reel in a clean, dry place when not in use.
