Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Use:
- Soak: Before first use, thoroughly soak the chamois in clean, lukewarm water. Gently squeeze out excess water. This softens the leather and prepares it for optimal performance.
- Rinse: Rinse the chamois under clean water to remove any residual tanning agents or dust.
Compatibility:
This chamois is compatible with most common cleaning solutions. It is suitable for use on glass, painted surfaces, metal, plastics, and finished wood. Avoid use on rough or abrasive surfaces that could damage the leather.
Care and Maintenance:
- Washing: Wash by hand in cool or lukewarm water with a mild, non-detergent soap (like baby shampoo or a specific leather cleaner). Avoid harsh detergents, bleach, or fabric softeners, as these can degrade the leather.
- Rinsing: Rinse thoroughly until all soap is removed.
- Drying: Gently squeeze out excess water – do not wring or twist forcefully. Hang the chamois to air dry away from direct heat or sunlight. It may become stiff once dry; this is normal.
- Re-softening: To re-soften a dry chamois, simply soak it in lukewarm water again before the next use.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry place when not in use. Ensure it is completely dry before storing to prevent mildew.
