Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure a successful installation, follow these steps:
- Preparation: Cut the copper pipe squarely and remove any burrs from the end using a file or deburring tool.
- Cleaning: Use a wire wool pad or abrasive cloth to clean the pipe surface until it is bright and shiny. Apply a thin, even coat of high-quality flux to the cleaned area.
- Insertion: Insert the pipe fully into the adaptor fitting until it reaches the stop.
- Heating: Apply heat evenly to the fitting using a blowtorch. Once the flux begins to bubble, touch the lead-free solder to the mouth of the fitting; the solder should melt and flow into the joint via capillary action.
- Cooling: Allow the joint to cool naturally before applying pressure to the system.
Compatibility note: These adaptors are specifically sized for standard copper tubing. Ensure you match the nominal diameter exactly to the pipe size before purchasing. Avoid using harsh chemicals for exterior cleaning, as copper will develop a natural patina over time.
