The Shimano Spares Bracket Axle Unit (RDM781) is designed for mountain bike enthusiasts and mechanics looking to restore precise shifting performance to their Shimano RD-M781 rear derailleur. This genuine replacement part provides an exact fit for standard derailleur configurations, ensuring your drivetrain operates with factory-spec reliability; however, users should ensure their specific derailleur model matches the RDM781 designation before purchase to avoid compatibility errors.

No, this part is engineered specifically for the RD-M781 rear derailleur.
You will need a set of metric hex wrenches and basic bike maintenance tools to remove and reassemble the derailleur.
The kit focuses on the axle unit components; please retain your original mounting hardware if not explicitly included in your specific kit packaging.
Replacement is typically only necessary if the existing unit shows signs of physical wear, rust, or excessive lateral movement.
Use a high-quality, water-resistant bicycle-specific grease to prevent corrosion and ensure smooth pivot movement.
Ensure the main mounting bolt is torqued to manufacturer specifications and check that the hanger itself is not bent.
Re-index your derailleur using the barrel adjusters and verify that the cable tension is correct.
Installation requires removing the rear derailleur from the frame and partially disassembling the main mounting pivot. It is highly recommended to use a clean workspace and professional-grade Allen keys or hex drivers to avoid stripping the bolt heads. Compatibility is strictly limited to the Shimano RD-M781 series; verify your model number located on the back of the derailleur cage before starting. To maintain the unit, apply a light, water-resistant bicycle grease during installation to protect the axle from moisture ingress and seizing. Regularly check the derailleur mounting bolt torque to ensure the unit remains secure throughout your riding season.
