Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure the longevity of your Clauss Titanium Bonded Shears, proper setup and maintenance are essential:
- Tension Adjustment: Test the shears on a scrap piece of fabric. If the material folds rather than cuts, use a screwdriver to slightly tighten the central tension screw. If the blades feel too stiff to close easily, loosen the screw until the action is smooth.
- Cleaning: Wipe the blades with a dry, lint-free cloth after every use. If adhesive residue builds up, use a mild solvent on a cloth, taking care not to submerge the pivot point.
- Storage: Keep the shears in a dry environment. While the titanium bonding is corrosion-resistant, storing them in a damp area can eventually affect the pivot point and the longevity of the handle material.
- Sharpening: Avoid using standard knife sharpeners on these blades, as they may compromise the titanium bond. Use dedicated shear sharpening services if the edge dulls significantly after years of heavy use.
