FAQs

Can I mix this with dry food?

Only if your veterinarian explicitly recommends it. Mixing with non-therapeutic dry food may interfere with the pH control of the diet.

How long should my cat stay on this diet?

Typically 5–12 weeks for dissolution, or up to 6 months to prevent recurrence, as advised by your vet.

Is this safe for senior cats?

It depends on their overall health. It is not safe for cats with chronic renal insufficiency, so a blood panel is required before starting.

Why does the diet need a prescription?

Because the mineral levels are altered to treat a medical condition and could be harmful to a healthy cat.

Can I give my cat treats while on this diet?

You should avoid all treats unless they are specifically approved by your veterinarian, as many treats contain high minerals that affect urine acidity.

Troubleshooting

Cat refuses to eat the new food

Try warming the food slightly to room temperature or mixing in a very small amount of warm water to enhance the aroma.

Cat is still straining to urinate

Contact your veterinarian immediately, as this could indicate an acute obstruction, which is a life-threatening emergency.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Effectively targets struvite stone dissolution and recurrence
High palatability due to chicken-based recipe
Added urinary tract support with cranberries
Includes omega-3 sources like salmon oil for overall health

Cons

Requires strict veterinary consultation before starting
Not suitable for cats with specific underlying conditions like renal failure
Cannot be fed to kittens or pregnant/lactating cats
Not compatible with concurrent use of urine acidifying medications

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Before introducing Calibra Struvite Management, you must confirm your cat's specific diagnosis with a veterinarian to ensure it is not suffering from other conditions like chronic renal insufficiency or metabolic acidosis.

Transitioning: If your cat has a sensitive stomach, transition slowly by mixing this food with their previous diet over 5–7 days.
Feeding Duration: Follow the recommended 5–12 week period for dissolution or up to 6 months for recurrence prevention.
Storage: Store unused cans in a cool, dry place. Once opened, refrigerate the contents and serve within 24–48 hours for maximum freshness.
Water Access: Never restrict water intake, as hydration is the primary partner to this therapeutic diet.
