FAQs
Is this harness suitable for street use?
This harness is FIA 8854/98 approved for motorsport use. While it can be fitted to a street car, it is not street-legal in many regions and may not be compatible with standard seat belt interlocks or airbags. It is primarily intended for competition or track day vehicles.
What is the lifespan of this harness?
FIA recommends replacing harnesses every 2-3 years from the date of manufacture, or immediately after any accident or if the webbing shows signs of significant wear or damage. Always check the manufacture date on the harness label.
Can I install this harness myself?
Yes, if you have the necessary mechanical aptitude and understand proper safety equipment installation. However, for competitive use, it is highly recommended to have the installation checked by a qualified race car fabricator or mechanic to ensure compliance and safety.
What are the main differences from a 5 or 6-point harness?
A 4-point harness typically uses two shoulder straps and two lap straps. Higher-point harnesses (5 or 6) add an anti-submarine strap that goes between the legs, preventing the wearer from sliding down and under the lap belts during high-impact braking or crashes.
How do I clean the harness?
Use a soft cloth dampened with a mild soap and water solution. Gently wipe the webbing. Rinse with a clean, damp cloth and allow to air dry completely. Do not use harsh chemicals or tumble dry.
Can the shoulder straps be used with a HANS device?
This harness is designed to work with a HANS device, but ensure your HANS device is properly fitted and compatible with the harness and vehicle setup. The 3" shoulder webbing is generally suitable.
What is the benefit of the clip-in end fittings?
The clip-in end fittings allow for quick detachment and reattachment. This is particularly useful for the shoulder straps, enabling them to be easily wrapped around a roll bar instead of requiring a separate mounting eye bolt.
Troubleshooting
Harness is difficult to tighten
Ensure the pull-up adjusters on the lap straps are clean and free of debris. Check that the webbing is not twisted or caught on anything.
Shoulder straps won't secure properly to roll bar
Verify that the shoulder straps have been fully detached from their clip-in fittings and are being wrapped correctly around a properly sized and positioned roll bar. Ensure the webbing is tight and the buckle is securely fastened.
Clip-in fittings are stiff or hard to engage
Inspect the clip-in fittings and corresponding eye bolts for dirt or corrosion. Clean them gently. Lubrication is generally not recommended for safety equipment fittings; consult the manufacturer if issues persist.
Webbing feels rough or shows signs of wear
Immediately cease using the harness. Inspect thoroughly for any fraying, cuts, or abrasion marks. If any damage is present, the harness must be replaced. Contact the manufacturer for guidance.

Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup: This harness is designed for saloon/rally cars. The shoulder straps can be either clipped into eye bolts (not included) or detached at the clip-in end fittings to be wrapped around a suitable roll bar. The lap straps use clip-in fittings that attach to eye bolts. Ensure all mounting points are structurally sound and correctly rated for motorsport use. Adjust straps so they are snug but not overly restrictive, with shoulder straps angled appropriately (typically not more than 20 degrees from vertical). Lap belts should sit low and tight across the pelvis.
Compatibility: Compatible with most saloon and rally car applications. Requires appropriate mounting points (eye bolts or roll bar) for installation. Ensure compatibility with your specific vehicle's interior and safety structure before purchasing.
Care: Clean the harness webbing with a mild soap and water solution. Avoid using harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners, as these can degrade the webbing material and compromise safety. Allow the harness to air dry completely away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Periodically inspect the webbing, adjusters, and fittings for any signs of wear, fraying, or damage. Replace the harness if any damage is found or if it has been involved in an accident, as per FIA recommendations.
