Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
The Kilner Wide Mouth Jars arrive ready for use. Before first use, it's recommended to wash all components. For preserving, jars should be sterilized according to your chosen preservation method (e.g., boiling water bath, oven).
Compatibility:
- Food Use: Ideal for preserving fruits, vegetables, jams, jellies, pickles, sauces, and storing dry goods, cereals, nuts, and spices.
- Liquid Use: Suitable for beverages, juices, or fermented drinks.
- Storage: Compatible with refrigerator, pantry, and freezer (ensure contents allow for expansion in freezer to prevent cracking).
Care:
- Glass Jars: The high-quality sodalime glass jars are dishwasher safe. Place them securely in the dishwasher rack.
- Tin Discs and Screw Bands: These lid components must be hand washed only.
- Use warm, soapy water.
- Rinse thoroughly.
- Dry immediately after washing to prevent corrosion or rust, especially on the tin disc.
- Do not leave lids to soak for extended periods.
- Sterilization: For preserving, always follow proper sterilization guidelines relevant to your recipe and method to ensure food safety and a proper seal.
- Handling: While durable, avoid sudden temperature changes (e.g., placing a hot jar on a cold surface) to prevent thermal shock and cracking.
