This guide is for miniature painters seeking a faster and simpler way to base, shade, and highlight models. The key benefit of Doomfire Magenta Contrast Paint is achieving vivid colors and realistic shading in a single application. A potential caveat is that optimal results are achieved when applied over a compatible Contrast undercoat.

Shake the pot well, then apply a generous, smooth coat of the Contrast paint over a light-colored Citadel Contrast primer. Allow the paint to flow naturally into the recesses. Avoid brushing back and forth too much.
While possible, Contrast paints are designed to work optimally over light primers (like White Scar, Wraithbone, or Grey Seer). Using black primer will result in a much darker, less vibrant finish with significantly reduced shading effects.
Clean your brushes immediately with lukewarm water. Use a brush soap or cleaner for a more thorough cleaning if needed.
Yes, you can thin Citadel Contrast paints using Citadel Lahmian Medium for a more translucent effect, or with water for general thinning, though Lahmian Medium is recommended to maintain the paint's properties.
Contrast paints are formulated to provide both a base coat and shading in a single application when used over a light undercoat. Regular Citadel paints require separate applications for base coating, shading, and highlighting.
Contrast paints typically dry within 15-30 minutes, depending on the thickness of application and environmental humidity. Avoid touching the painted area until fully dry.
Citadel Contrast paints are primarily designed for brush application. While they can be thinned for airbrushing, it requires specific thinning ratios and mediums (like Lahmian Medium) and may alter the contrast effect. It's generally recommended to use airbrush-specific paints for airbrushing.
Shake the pot vigorously. If still thick, add a small amount of Lahmian Medium or water and stir gently.
Ensure the model was primed with a suitable Contrast primer. Apply in smooth, even coats, avoiding overworking the paint. If an error occurs, it can sometimes be corrected by carefully reapplying a thin coat or using a clean, damp brush to wick away excess paint.
Ensure the undercoat was light. For deeper shadows, a second thin application might be needed, or consider using a dedicated shade paint on recesses after the Contrast layer has dried.
Setup: No specific setup is required. Shake the pot well before use to ensure the pigments are evenly distributed.
Compatibility: This paint is designed to work best with Citadel Contrast primers and undercoats. While it can be applied over other primer types, the shading and highlighting effect will be less pronounced. It can be thinned with Lahmian Medium for a more translucent effect or used in conjunction with other Citadel paints for detailing.
Care: Store the pot upright in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Ensure the lid is securely closed after use to prevent the paint from drying out. Clean brushes immediately after use with water.
