Full details

Grangers Wash and Repel Clothing 2in1 is an essential maintenance solution for outdoor enthusiasts who need to clean and restore waterproof gear without multiple wash cycles. This product is perfect for hikers, climbers, and travelers looking to maintain their GORE-TEX, eVent, or softshell garments in a single step; however, it is specifically designed for single-use applications, which may not be the most cost-effective solution for frequent, routine garment maintenance.

FAQs

Can I use this on a down jacket?

This product is designed for shell fabrics. If your down jacket has a waterproof outer layer, it is safe to use, but ensure you follow specific down-drying instructions.

Does it work on cotton?

No, this product is specifically formulated for technical, synthetic, and membrane-based fabrics.

Can I put the product directly into the drum?

It is recommended to use the detergent drawer, but if your machine does not have one, ensure it is added to a clean compartment.

Is it eco-friendly?

Grangers products are bluesign approved and PFC-free, focusing on safe and effective chemical alternatives.

How often should I treat my jacket?

Treat your gear when you notice water no longer beads up on the surface or after heavy use in dirty, muddy conditions.

Troubleshooting

Water still soaks into the fabric after treatment

The DWR coating was likely not heat-activated; repeat the drying process with low heat to cure the repellent.

Garment feels stiff or sticky after washing

This is often caused by using too much product or insufficient rinsing; ensure the machine is not overloaded and consider an extra rinse cycle next time.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Saves time by combining cleaning and reproofing steps
Compatible with major membrane brands like GORE-TEX
Compact bottle size is perfect for travel or camping trips
Preserves the technical performance of expensive gear

Cons

100ml bottle is only intended for a single use
Not as economical as larger, multi-use bottles for home laundry
Requires heat activation for optimal performance

Setup, Compatibility & Care

For best results, ensure your washing machine's detergent compartment is clean of previous standard laundry detergents, as these can strip waterproof treatments. This product is compatible with all technical outdoor gear, including waterproof, windproof, softshell, and fleece items. After washing, tumble dry the garment on a gentle, low-heat setting if the care label permits. If tumble drying is not recommended, you may use a hairdryer on a low setting or iron the item through a towel to provide the heat necessary to activate the water-repellent polymers.
