Product Information

Full details

The Deity Dual-Head W.Lav Pro is a versatile lavalier microphone designed for creators needing flexible audio capture solutions. Its unique dual-head design allows for AB stereo recording, binaural setups, or miking two subjects simultaneously, offering broadcast-quality audio with exceptional durability thanks to its IP57 waterproof rating. A potential caveat is its reliance on a 3.5mm TRS connector, which may require adapters for certain devices.

FAQs

Can I use this microphone with my smartphone?

Yes, you can use it with most smartphones. If your smartphone only has a USB-C or Lightning port, you will need a compatible 3.5mm to USB-C or Lightning adapter.

How do I achieve AB stereo with this microphone?

Clip the two microphone heads around a single subject, typically on the chest, facing outwards, to capture a stereo image of that subject.

What does the IP57 rating mean?

IP57 means the microphone is protected against dust ingress and can withstand immersion in water up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes. It's suitable for use in wet weather and protected against sweat.

Is the cable length specified?

The product description mentions a 'long Y-split cable', but a specific length is not provided. It is designed to offer flexibility in placement.

What is the difference between this and a single-head lavalier?

The Dual-Head W.Lav Pro offers the unique ability to record two distinct audio sources simultaneously, capture stereo sound, or create mock binaural recordings, which a single-head lavalier cannot do.

Does it require phantom power?

No, this is a passive lavalier microphone and does not require phantom power. It draws minimal power from the connected device.

Can I use this with my DSLR camera?

Yes, as long as your DSLR has a 3.5mm microphone input jack. Some cameras may require a 3.5mm to 1/4" adapter if they have a dedicated professional audio input.

Troubleshooting

No audio or low volume

Ensure the 3.5mm connector is fully plugged into the recording device. Check that the microphone is selected as the input source in your device's settings. Verify the recording device's gain levels are set appropriately. Test with a different device or cable if possible.

Hum or buzz in the audio

Check for potential RF interference. Ensure the cable is properly shielded and not running parallel to power cables. Try moving away from electronic devices that might be causing interference. The Deity THEOS system is designed to minimize this.

Audio sounds distorted

The input gain on your recording device might be too high. Lower the gain to prevent clipping. Ensure the microphone is not placed too close to a loud sound source, exceeding its 110dB max SPL.

Water damage despite IP57 rating

The IP57 rating protects against dust and immersion up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. Avoid prolonged submersion. If exposed to significant water, dry the microphone thoroughly immediately and check capsule integrity. Note that water damage is not typically covered under warranty.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Highly versatile dual-head design for multiple recording scenarios.
  • Excellent durability with IP57 waterproof rating.
  • Broadcast-quality audio capture.
  • Compatibility with various wireless systems and concealment accessories.
  • Robust construction with locking 3.5mm connector.

Cons

  • 3.5mm TRS connector may require adapters for certain devices.
  • Requires an audio interface or device with a 3.5mm microphone input.
  • Dual-capsule setup might be overkill for single-subject recordings.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

  1. Attach the desired lavalier concealer or clip the microphone heads to your subject's clothing.
  2. Connect the 3.5mm TRS connector to your recording device (camera, smartphone adapter, audio recorder, or wireless transmitter).
  3. If using a device with a combo headphone/mic jack, ensure you are using the correct adapter or that the device automatically switches to the external microphone.

Compatibility:

The Dual-Head W.Lav Pro features a universal 3.5mm TRS connector. It is compatible with:

  • DSLR and Mirrorless Cameras (using the 3.5mm input or adapter)
  • Smartphones and Tablets (may require a 3.5mm adapter for TRRS ports)
  • Audio Recorders with 3.5mm mic inputs
  • Wireless Transmitters with 3.5mm mic inputs, including Deity's THEOS system.

Care:

  • Cleaning: Gently wipe the microphone capsules and cable with a dry or slightly damp, soft cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or submerging the microphone.
  • Storage: Store the microphone in a dry place, ideally in its original packaging or a protective case, to prevent damage to the capsules and cable.
  • Water Resistance: While IP57 rated, avoid prolonged submersion. After exposure to moisture, dry thoroughly before storing.
