Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
When your tree arrives, carefully unpack it from its bespoke box. If planting directly into the ground, dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and to the same depth. Gently place the tree in the hole, backfill with soil, and water thoroughly. If planting in a pot, choose a container of at least 100 litres and use a good quality potting mix. Ensure the pot has adequate drainage holes.
Compatibility:
This tree is a fully hardy outdoor variety suitable for most soil types and any garden position. For best fruiting, pears generally prefer a sunny spot. While they are self-fertile to a degree, planting near another compatible pear variety can enhance pollination and fruit set.
Care:
- Watering: Water regularly, especially during dry periods and when the tree is establishing. Ensure newly potted trees do not dry out.
- Feeding: Apply a balanced fertiliser in spring once growth begins.
- Pruning: Prune in late winter to maintain shape and encourage fruiting. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches. For container-grown trees, prune to manage size.
- Pest & Disease: Keep an eye out for common pear pests and diseases. Good airflow and proper care can help prevent issues.
