This guide is for artists seeking a high-quality, high-viscosity acrylic paint for textured and bold artwork. The key benefit is its thick, buttery consistency and rich pigment load, allowing for expressive techniques like impasto. A caveat is that its thickness may require medium to thin it for certain applications. Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylic Paint offers superior coverage, flexibility, and permanence, making it ideal for a range of artistic styles and ensuring long-lasting, vibrant results.

Heavy Body acrylics have a thick, buttery consistency ideal for texture and impasto, retaining brushstrokes. Soft Body acrylics are smoother and more fluid, suitable for glazing and covering larger areas with less texture.
Yes, you can mix it with water. However, using too much water can weaken the paint film's integrity. For best results, use acrylic mediums to alter consistency and finish.
You can mix the Heavy Body acrylics with a Liquitex Gloss Medium or apply a Liquitex Gloss Varnish after the paint is fully dry.
Yes, Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylic Paint is permanent, lightfast, and flexible once fully dried, making it suitable for archival artwork.
Drying time varies depending on application thickness, humidity, and temperature. Thin layers may dry in minutes, while thick impasto layers can take hours or even days to dry completely to the touch, and longer to cure fully.
The Muted Collection features colors with a sophisticated, desaturated palette. They are specifically formulated to prevent darkening upon drying, maintaining their intended hue and value.
While the paint is permanent and durable, it is recommended to apply a weather-resistant varnish for outdoor applications to ensure maximum protection against the elements.
Thin with a small amount of water or an appropriate Liquitex acrylic medium (e.g., Flow Aid, Acrylic Medium).
Ensure you are using clean brushes and tools. Overmixing can lead to muddiness; try to mix only as much as needed or use a limited palette for cleaner results. For the Muted Collection, colors are formulated to prevent darkening.
Work in smaller sections, use a slower-drying medium like a blending or retarder medium, or lightly mist your work surface with water to extend open time.
Rinse brushes thoroughly with water and soap immediately after use. If paint has dried, soak the brush head in rubbing alcohol or a dedicated brush cleaner.
Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylic Paint is ready to use straight from the tube. For thinning, use water for a more fluid consistency or Liquitex acrylic mediums for specific finishes (e.g., gloss, matte) and to maintain paint integrity. It is compatible with most acrylic mediums, gels, and pastes, as well as other acrylic paints. For cleaning brushes and tools, rinse immediately with soap and water before the paint dries. Dried paint can be removed with rubbing alcohol, but may require soaking. Store paint in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures, with the cap tightly sealed to prevent drying out. Ensure containers are upright to prevent leaks.
