Full details

Its key benefit lies in its waterproof, Hydrolock® system, enabling quick and seamless installation, even over existing surfaces. FAQs

Can I install these panels over existing tiles?

Yes, the panels are designed to be fitted over existing ceramic tiles, provided the surface is sound, clean, and dry.

What is the Hydrolock® system?

Hydrolock® is a tongue and groove system that creates a strong, waterproof, and near-invisible joint between panels, enhancing both aesthetics and water resistance.

How do I clean the textured surface?

Use a soft, damp cloth with a mild household cleaner. Avoid abrasive materials or harsh chemicals. For stubborn residue, a soft brush can be used gently.

Are these panels suitable for a shower enclosure?

Yes, the panels are fully waterproof and are specifically designed for use in shower enclosures and wet room environments.

What adhesive and sealant should I use?

It is crucial to use Multipanel's specifically recommended waterproof adhesives and silicone sealants to ensure the integrity and longevity of the installation.

How long will the panels last?

The panels are constructed with a durable MDF core and come with a 30-year guarantee, indicating a long lifespan when installed and maintained correctly.

Can I paint these panels?

These panels are pre-finished with a textured design and are not designed to be painted. Painting may affect their waterproof properties and aesthetic.

Troubleshooting

Panel not fitting securely into Hydrolock® joint.

Ensure no debris is present in the groove or on the tongue. Check for any damage to the Hydrolock® edges. Apply gentle, even pressure.

Water ingress at the joints.

Verify that the correct Multipanel adhesive and sealant were used and applied according to instructions. Ensure all edges and corners are properly sealed with silicone.

Surface appears dull or marked after cleaning.

You may have used an abrasive cleaner. Switch to a soft cloth and a mild, pH-neutral cleaner. Rinse with clean water and dry thoroughly.

Panel cutting is chipping or rough.

Use a fine-toothed blade on your saw and ensure the panel is well-supported during cutting. Cutting from the back can sometimes provide a cleaner edge.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Can be installed over existing surfaces, saving time and labor.
  • Low maintenance requirements for ongoing upkeep.

Cons

  • Textured finish may require more thorough cleaning to remove soap scum or residue compared to smooth surfaces.

  • Panels are rigid and cannot be easily applied to curved surfaces without specialized techniques or cuts.
  • Initial cost may be higher than basic tile options.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

  1. Ensure the substrate is clean, dry, and structurally sound. Panels can be fitted over existing ceramic tiles, plasterboard, MDF, or concrete.
  2. Use the recommended Multipanel waterproof adhesives and sealants for all joints and edges.
  3. Apply adhesive to the back of the panel or the substrate as per manufacturer instructions.
  4. Slot the Hydrolock® tongue and groove edges together firmly.
  5. Cut panels to size using a fine-toothed saw or jigsaw; ensure safety precautions are taken.
  6. Seal all edges and corners with the appropriate silicone sealant for a watertight finish.

Compatibility:

  • Compatible with most standard bathroom fitting installations (taps, showerheads, etc.). Ensure proper sealing around any cut-outs.
  • Designed to be installed on vertical walls. Not suitable for floor applications.
  • Can be installed in direct contact with shower water.

Care:

  • Clean using a soft, damp cloth and a mild, non-abrasive household cleaner.
  • Avoid using abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or harsh chemicals, which can damage the textured surface.
  • Wipe away soap residue and water droplets regularly to maintain appearance.
