These are standard kiln-dried shims. If used outdoors, they should be painted or sealed to prevent rot and moisture damage.
Yes, they are strong enough to support the weight of most appliances, provided the load is distributed evenly across the shim.
While taper can vary slightly by batch, they are standard taper shims designed to fill gaps from approximately 1/16 inch up to 1/4 inch.
No, you only need a level to check your work and a utility knife or saw to trim the excess length.
Yes, the wood is easily sanded to match the finish of surrounding trim or cabinetry.
Use a small amount of wood glue or a finish nail to secure the shim into its final position.
Pre-drill a pilot hole through the thickest part of the shim to reduce stress on the wood fibers.
Use two shims moving in opposite directions to create a flat, parallel lifting surface instead of a wedge.
To use these shims, determine the gap size needing correction and insert the shim until it provides the required elevation. For maximum stability, always use shims in pairs—one from each side of a gap—to maintain a parallel, level surface. While these shims are ready to use, they can be easily modified by cutting them with a hand saw or snapping them at the desired thickness. Store in a cool, dry place to prevent moisture absorption prior to use. They are compatible with all standard lumber, drywall, and cabinetry materials.
