Full details
The MUJI Aluminium Ruler is an essential tool for students, designers, and office professionals who prioritize precision and long-term durability in their stationery. Its primary benefit is the deeply engraved scale that resists wear over years of heavy use, though users should be aware that the rigid metal construction lacks the flexibility required for measuring curved surfaces.

FAQs
Can I use this ruler as a guide for cutting paper?
Yes, the sturdy aluminium construction makes it an excellent choice for use as a straight edge when cutting paper or cardstock.
Will the markings fade if I use it every day?
No, because the measurements are deeply engraved into the metal, they will not fade or wear off with normal daily use.
Is this ruler flexible?
No, it is made of rigid aluminium and is designed to remain perfectly straight rather than flexible.
Does it include both imperial and metric measurements?
This specific MUJI model is primarily scaled in metric (centimeters/millimeters) for high-precision tasks.
How do I prevent the aluminium from getting scratched?
While the aluminium is durable, you can prevent surface scratches by storing it separately from abrasive items like metal compasses or heavy tools.
Troubleshooting
Measurements are becoming difficult to read due to debris buildup
Use a soft brush or a damp cloth to clear out the etched grooves where dust and pencil lead often collect.
The ruler slides while drawing lines
Apply a small piece of anti-slip tape or a rubber dot to the underside of the ruler for better grip on smooth desk surfaces.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Engraved markings remain legible indefinitely
- Rigid structure doubles as a cutting guide
- Lightweight and portable design
- Durable metal construction resists bending
Cons
- Not suitable for measuring curved or uneven surfaces
- Metal edges may be sharp to the touch
- Lacks rubberized base, which may cause sliding on smooth surfaces
Setup, Compatibility & Care
There is no setup required for this tool; it is ready for use immediately upon removal from packaging. To ensure the longevity of your ruler, avoid using it on abrasive surfaces that could scratch the aluminium finish over time. If the ruler accumulates graphite, ink, or residue, clean it using a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with isopropyl alcohol. Store the ruler in a flat, dry environment to prevent accidental bending or surface oxidation.
