Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup Instructions
The Fordwich Bird Table arrives in two main sections to facilitate easier delivery and handling. Assembly is straightforward:
- Unpack Components: Carefully remove all parts from the packaging. You will typically find the pre-assembled stand/base and the table top section.
- Attach Table Top: Align the table top section with the top of the stand. There will be pre-drilled holes or specific fittings to guide you. Securely attach the table top using the provided screws or fasteners. Ensure it is firm and level.
- Position the Table: Choose a suitable, level spot in your garden. For stability, avoid uneven ground. If necessary, slightly press the base into soft ground or use wedges to ensure it doesn't wobble.
Compatibility
The Fordwich Bird Table is compatible with most common garden bird seeds, nuts (ensure they are bird-safe and unsalted), suet cakes, and other commercially available bird foods. It is designed to attract a wide range of small to medium-sized garden birds.
Care & Maintenance
Regular care will ensure your bird table remains a healthy and inviting spot for birds:
- Cleaning: Clean the bird table regularly, ideally once a week, to prevent the build-up of old food, droppings, and potential disease. Scrape off old food, then clean with a mild disinfectant solution safe for birds (or a solution of 5% disinfectant and water), rinse thoroughly, and allow it to dry completely before refilling.
- Timber Maintenance: The sustainable FSC timber is durable, but exposure to weather can cause natural wear. Periodically inspect the wood for any signs of damage or excessive weathering. Applying a bird-safe timber preservative or stain can help prolong its life and maintain its appearance.
- Food Hygiene: Always remove uneaten or spoiled food promptly to prevent mold growth and bacterial contamination. Use different types of food in different areas to cater to diverse bird preferences.
