FAQs

Do I need a primer or top coat with this paint?

No, Frenchic Trim Paint is formulated to be self-priming and self-sealing, meaning you do not need to apply a separate primer or top coat.

How many coats do I need for a good finish?

For a durable and robust finish, a minimum of two coats is required. On very porous surfaces, you may need additional coats to achieve full coverage and an even look.

What is the coverage like for a 500ml tin?

A 500ml tin will provide approximately 7m² per coat. Since a minimum of two coats is recommended for durability, expect a full coverage of about 3.5m² per tin on non-porous surfaces.

Can I use this paint on outdoor furniture?

No, this Frenchic Trim Paint is specifically formulated for interior use and is not recommended for exterior applications.

Is this paint safe for children's items?

Yes, this paint is EN71-3 certified, making it safe for use on children's toys once it has fully dried and cured.

What kind of finish does 'Moon Whispers' have?

This paint provides a beautiful, subtle soft-satin sheen, offering an elegant look without being overly glossy.

How do I clean surfaces painted with Frenchic Trim Paint?

Once fully cured, surfaces can be gently wiped clean with a damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh scrubbing to maintain the soft-satin finish.

What surfaces can I paint with 'Moon Whispers'?

It is suitable for interior woodwork, trims, skirting, doors, powder-coated radiators, metal, and various types of furniture, including kitchen cupboards and both wood and laminate surfaces.

Troubleshooting

Poor Coverage or Uneven Finish

Ensure the surface is clean and dry before painting. Apply a minimum of two coats for optimal coverage and durability. On porous surfaces, expect to apply additional coats as these surfaces absorb more paint. Ensure sufficient paint quantity for the project.

Paint Not Adhering Well / Peeling

Proper surface preparation is key. While self-priming, very glossy or oily surfaces may still benefit from a light sand and thorough cleaning before painting. Ensure no residue (grease, dirt, old flaking paint) is present.

Lack of Durability / Scuffing Easily

The paint requires a minimum of two coats for its robust, scuff-resistant finish. Avoid applying too thinly, as this can compromise durability. Allow sufficient time for the paint to fully cure (not just touch-dry) before subjecting the surface to heavy use or cleaning.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Elegant, Soft Grey Hue: 'Moon Whispers' provides a beautiful, versatile pale grey that complements various interior styles.
All-in-One Convenience: Self-priming and self-sealing formulation eliminates the need for extra products, simplifying your painting process.
Exceptional Durability: Offers a robust, scuff-resistant finish ideal for high-traffic areas.
Low Odour & Low VOCs: Water-based formula ensures a more pleasant painting experience with minimal fumes.
Wide Surface Compatibility: Adheres well to numerous interior surfaces, including wood, laminate, and metal.
Child-Safe Certification: Certified safe for use on children's toys (EN71-3), offering peace of mind.

Cons

Minimum Two Coats Required: For optimal durability and finish, at least two coats are necessary, which may extend project time.
Variable Coverage on Porous Surfaces: Porous materials may absorb more paint, reducing coverage and potentially requiring additional coats.
Batch Consistency Check Needed: When using multiple tins, it's advised to check batch numbers or intermix paint to ensure colour uniformity.
Thinner Application Affects Durability: Applying too thinly can compromise the paint's protective qualities and lifespan.
Interior Use Only: Not designed for exterior applications, limiting its versatility.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup & Surface Preparation

The Frenchic Trim Paint is designed for simple preparation. For most surfaces, a good clean to remove dirt, grease, and loose particles is sufficient. Light sanding may be beneficial for very glossy surfaces to provide a key, but a primer is not required thanks to its self-priming properties. Ensure the surface is dry before application. If you are using multiple tins of the same colour, always check that the batch numbers are identical or intermix the paint thoroughly before beginning your project to ensure consistent colour.

Compatibility

This versatile paint is recommended for interior use across a wide range of materials:

Woodwork: Ideal for trims, skirting boards, doors, and window frames.
Furniture: Suitable for various furniture types, including kitchen cupboards, built-in units, wooden furniture, and laminate pieces.
Metal: Can be used on powder-coated radiators and other metal surfaces.

The paint is certified EN71-3, making it safe for use on children's toys once fully dry and cured.

Care

Once applied and fully cured, the painted surface should be robust and scuff-resistant. For general cleaning, wipe down with a damp cloth and mild soap if necessary. Avoid harsh abrasive cleaners or scrubbing pads, which could damage the soft-satin finish. Allow the paint to fully cure (typically a few weeks, though touch-dry quickly) before subjecting it to heavy use or cleaning.
