FAQs
Can I use this rod for playing carp?
This rod is specifically designed for spodding and marking; its stiff action makes it unsuitable and potentially dangerous for fish safety when playing carp.
What is the recommended casting weight?
The rod is built for heavy-duty spodding. While it handles standard large spods with ease, always adhere to the recommended casting weights for your specific spod/lead types.
Does it come with a rod sleeve?
No, it is recommended to purchase a dedicated 12ft rod sleeve or holdall to protect the rod during transit.
Is the handle easy to grip when wet?
Yes, the Japanese shrink wrap butt grip provides a non-slip surface, ensuring a firm hold even in wet or damp conditions.
Can I use this for long-range marker work?
Absolutely, the sensitive tip recovery makes it an excellent choice for mapping features at extreme ranges.
Troubleshooting
Line tangling at the tip during casting
Ensure the anti-frap tip ring is free of debris and confirm your shock leader knot is slim enough to pass through the guides smoothly.
Reel feels loose in the seat during casting
Check that the DPS reel seat collars are fully tightened and ensure the reel foot is correctly seated in the hood before locking.

- Lightweight construction reduces fatigue during repeated casting
- Anti-frap tip ring significantly reduces line breakage or tangles
- High-quality aesthetic with a sleek, semi-matte armoured finish
- Handles heavy spod loads with minimal effort
Cons
- Not suitable for playing fish due to the stiff action
- Requires advanced casting skills to load the blank properly
- Stiffness may feel unforgiving to novice casters
Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure the best performance, pair this 12ft rod with a dedicated big-pit reel spooled with either high-strength braid or a specialized shock-leader setup to handle the high casting forces. When cleaning, wipe down the carbon blank with a damp, lint-free cloth to remove dirt and grit, which can degrade the semi-matte finish over time. Inspect the Seaguide TDG guides periodically for any signs of line-groove wear. Always store the rod in a padded sleeve to prevent damage to the delicate ceramic tip ring during transit. Ensure the reel seat is fully tightened before every session to prevent movement of the reel under heavy casting loads.
